Software Engineer
At Katakem, our mission is to help chemists build the future faster.
As a software engineer, you are a key part of achieving this mission, as OnePot is a robot that, without your digital touch, cannot do much.
About the role
The R&D team is looking for an experienced computer engineering person to work together on an ambitious mission - to provide chemical researchers with a robot to accelerate the creation of the future.
The reactor mounts advanced sensors and for this it will be necessary to collaborate with the rest of the team, which also includes chemists, and electronic and mechanical engineers.
Requirements
- Product-centric mindset. As a fast-growing startup, it's important that everyone who works with us understands what we're building, who we're building it for, and how we intend to get there. You need to turn your ideas into (working!) code and have the energy to go to the lab and test it on the machine. You must be proactive in sharing your ideas and opinions. We are ready to listen to you!
- Entrepreneurial self-starter. You enjoy having ownership of projects and working in a fast-moving and changing environment;
- Pragmatism. During the design phase, there will be some very obvious constraints and others less so: you will have to be comfortable in expressing your possible doubts and in proposing compromises to achieve the objectives;
- Python. You have experience identifying the steps needed to get something done and thinking algorithmically. Our robot is managed by both complex and articulated logics, all developed in this programming language;
- Communication and storage. Know the main Web communication protocols, data exchange languages (JSON/XML), and MySQL/MongoDB databases;
- Order and sharing. You use GitHub and BitBucket hosting services for software projects;
- Management of relationships with suppliers. No negotiation skills are required, but knowing what the production constraints and average implementation times are;
- Fluent Italian.
Bonus
- Raspberry;
- You have designed software solutions on Raspberry Pi board;
- Wiring diagrams;
- You can read and understand the information in a wiring diagram;
- Fluent English.
What we offer
We don't have an in-house gym or breakfast offered every morning, but we are growing fast and if you join us now, you will be able to have a say on what benefits we implement, how we organize office spaces, etc.
We offer you a stimulating environment, freedom to test your ideas and clear goals for both team and individual.
The starting salary is commensurate with your experience and will increase as you achieve your goals and add value to the team.
Who we are
Every day a research chemist wakes up and knows they will work with the same instruments as Natta and Curie.
On the one hand, this is very romantic; on the other, very frustrating: can you believe that only three times out of ten, a researcher is able to replicate their own experiments? And the percentage drops to 13% for someone else's experiments (source Nature).
At Katakem, we consider chemists heroes and work to help them become superheroes.
We invented a robot to automate their manual work, which causes mental fatigue and errors, to unleash their full potential.
Katakem was founded in 2019, we are supported by Berkeley Skydeck and LendLease in our growth path, and we were selected as one of the best 200 startups in the world by TechCrunch Disrupt in 2022.
The founding team has solid experience in this sector:
Manuela holds a Ph.D. Pharmaceutical Science. She is currently an Associate Professor of Chemistry at UMG, where she studies new ways to make chemistry more sustainable.
Marco holds a PhD. in Materials Science and worked as a researcher at IIT, KAUST, UMG, and SISSA.
- Python.
- Communication and storage.
- Italiano fluente.
Bonus
- Raspberry
- Hai progettato soluzioni software su scheda Raspberry Pi
- Schemi elettrici
